My 12 of 2012

So going off my last post I have made a list of 12 things to do and keep up in 2012. It may be pretty cliche, but it is stuff I honestly want to accomplish in my life. These are things I have been thinking about for a while, but having a time frame (1 year :: Jan 1- Dec 31) makes it a bit easier, maybe? So here is my refined list - 12 things in 2012

  1. Participate in at least one fiscal fast - No spending for 1 week (if I decide to do more than one, or say 1 per month, I will lessen the time to maybe 3-4 days at a time).
  2. Lose 75lbs. Like I said - cliche. But honestly, I need to lose more than that. I think the time frame is realistic.
  3. Save $1,500 ($125 a month). In total it really doesn't seem like much, but just saving $5 a month is more than we are doing now. I think I may cut this in half and save $750 and give $750. Either way I won't be just spending that $1,500 on junk.
  4. Finish Christmas shopping by Dec. 1. I know I can do this one. I almost had it done this year and then fell a little behind.
  5. Complete the 52 Weeks of Organization (www.orgjunkie.com). I have a list printed and will add a picture. This will help me get my house to where I want it to be. Also take before and after pictures.
  6. Take a vacation. We haven't taken a real vacation since our honeymoon. Whether it be a family vacation, or just me and David, we need to get away!
  7. Stick to a budget. David and I have talked about making one, but we just always forget. I hope that if we make one and stick to it then it will help us with all of our other financial goals.
  8. Attend church regularly. We have finally found a church we really enjoy. I want to become active members.
  9. Sew more. Once I do that I want to sell at least one thing that I have made. Maybe if I get good enough this can be another source of income.
  10. Take more pictures. I am thinking about getting a new camera with our tax return and I want to take tons of pictures of Lorelei so she (and her kids, and grandkids) can look back on them later.
  11. Keep up the laundry. This is one of the things I'm worst about. So this one is a lot more challenging than it sounds.
  12. Read a book a month. Even if I have already read it I want to read at least one book a month. If I can accomplish this goal then next year I will make the goal of reading at least one a month that I haven't read.
So to keep me organized with all of this stuff I'm going to have going on I am putting together a binder.. I'm not sure what it is about office supplies that inspires me to organize.

I have made some different sections. I have pictured home and school, but I also have a health section, and I'm considering adding a section for the books I plan on reading this coming year. Also I should probably add a budget section.

Back to the organizing though.. I mentioned I was going to do the 52 Weeks of Organization. I will share my list so far...

'

I've only gotten half of the list made up, but I honestly can not think of another thing to organize.. I also see myself doing more than one of these a week. My plan is if I run out of things to do from the list, I will just start all over again and making sure everything is kept up.

Well.. I guess I'll come back here to keep myself motivated and accountable. Thanks blogger.

I resolve..

I really don't like the tradition of "New Year Resolutions." I feel that if something is that important and you want to accomplish it, then you should start today. I make resolutions all the time. But this year I really have the feeling that come 1/1/12, my slate will be clean and I will start fresh. I guess I don't have resolutions per say, but instead just a list of things I want to stick to.

  1. I want to make a budget and stick to it. Through this I hope to grow a bit of savings, shave off some debt, and overall live more comfortably.
  2. Keep up my couponing. It seems 1 and 2 go hand in hand in more ways than one.
  3. Get rid of all the junk that is cluttering my house.
  4. Keep my laundry done. It piles up way too much.
  5. As cliche as this sounds, lose weight...
I could go on, but the big one for me is organize. I just have a feeling that 2012 will be my year of organizing. I've already started actually. I've got a whole box of stuff to get rid of, and I've only just begun. It would be wonderful to have everything in perfect order and in beautiful color coded rubbermaid bins, stacked neatly on shelves.. all the papers filed and put away... ugh.. It has really gotten to the point where things come into my house faster than I can sort them and it just becomes piles of junk. But like I said, I'm working on it. Hopefully 2012 will be my year.

Crafty Christmas

So its getting close to Christmas and we are on a tight budget.. Luckily I've been shopping for Lorelei since last Christmas so all of her stuff is done. The Marine's Toys for Tots program also gives a bag of stuff to us each year so that is also a big blessing. For the past few months we have also bought one gift per paycheck for each special person on our list.. Like one paycheck we got something for my mom, one paycheck we got something for David's mom, then his dad.. It didn't take long to get those done..

So now that its December we only have two people left. We draw names on David's side of the family every year and this year we have his aunt and her daughter. I'm not sure what to do for them. I asked around the family and they said "Just give them cash or a gift card," but I really don't want to do that. What is the point of giving Christmas gifts if you just swap cash.. I can already tell if we only do cash then the extent of our interaction at Christmas dinner is the exchange of the money. I am really wanting to make them something special that they will enjoy and remember, instead of just giving them money they will blow with one trip to Wal-Mart.

So now I'm working on some crafty gifts. I'm really at a loss of what to make because I honestly don't know them that well. Right now I'm knitting with intentions of making a purse or bag.. I've never made this before so I'm just winging it. I've thought of making a peppermint sugar scrub too, but my problem is that the gift should be worth about $25 so that it is all fair, and I know just a little sugar scrub isn't worth that much.

I really need some more ideas. I have spent hours searching Pinterest and can't seem to find anything..

On a more personal note - Lorelei is walking. I smile every time I see her dash across a room. It is so sweet to see this little person who was once just 9lbs, and is now running back and forth and stopping occasionally to give me a huge hug!

I've also been visiting a nutritionist, gotten a work out buddy, and other healthy things and I have now lost 19lbs. I have been slacking the past week or so, but I'm not giving up. I've felt so much better. Its amazing what healthy eating can do for you. On Friday I ran for the first time since high school. I know running doesn't seem like a big deal, but I honestly didn't think I could do it. I felt like I was going to die afterwards, but I was so proud of myself.
